Mr. Mike Rush

mike rush kickingMr. Mike Rush owner/instructor at United Mixed Martial Arts. Is a local La Mirada resident who went through all our local school system. After High School attending Rio Hondo College then onto Cal State University of Long Beach. Focusing on Business, Physical Education and Nutrition. Mr. Rush is certified in CPR, First Aid and has cleared an extensive background check. Mr Rush personally checks on all instructors and staff before they are allowed to help with instruction. He also has been involved with other youth organizations. Managing Little League Baseball for six years, volunteer work and sponsorship for local schools and churches.

Mr. Rush's martial arts background consists of Tae Kwon Do, holding a 3rd Degree Black Belt. Over the years he has cross-trained to broaden his knowledge in other areas of the martial arts, commonly known as "Mixed Martial Arts." He believes that one should be a well-rounded martial artist with both stand-up and ground skills.

Mr.Rush's Tae Kwon Do training was primarily under Grand Master Kong, one of the pioneers of Tae Kwon Do and one of the best. His cross training mixed martial arts consists of kickboxing, Muay Thai, Jiu Jitsu, submission fighting, and self-defense. He has had the opportunity to work with some of the best including Josh Barnet, Eddy Millis, John McPhail, Bob Chaney, Master Rohde, Ken Shamrock, Erik Paulson, Vernon White, and others.

Objective
To have one of the premiere martial arts training centers in the nation, where there is something for everyone, from beginners to advanced, with an energized atmosphere. To provide a facility where men, women, teens, and children can come get in shape and learn self-defense at the same time. To give as many people as possible the opportunity to be prepared, not be a victim.

SENSEI ALBERT GONZALES – Kick Boxing Instructor

 

Martial Arts Background

 

Mr. Gonzales began his career in Martial Arts when he was about six years old. He started with boxing, which he took after his father. Since then he has studied many disciplines with in martial arts.

Disciplines: Karate, Kendo, Judo, Kung Foo San Soo, American Kenpo Karate, Boxing, Muay Tai Kickboxing, Kali Stick fighting, Tai Chi Jitsu, Limalama, and training in the Marine Corp.

gTory Maytorena



Tory is a new addition to our UMMA team. He has been training for a total of 16 years in a multitude of different martial art forms, primarily training in Tae Kwon Do. He has also trained in Hapkido, Jiu-Jitsu with the Gracie team, Pressure Point Fighting with Master Dillman and has also had some weapons training. Tory originally started training at Frazier Martial Arts under long time and highly respected instructor Hideki Frazier. Tory has also been involved in many competitions and placed first in many matches.

Tory firmly believes that you can never learn everything about martial arts and all martial artists will forever be students. Tory's goals for his future years of training are to stay flexible, humble, and stay strong with the mind and body. Tory hopes to pass on his love for martial arts to anyone he instructs and help to provide the skills necessary in order to protect ones self.

Mr. Ronnie Tunac

Ronald Tunac – Head Tae Kwon Do Instructor

Current rank: 4th Dan.

Martial Arts Background:

Mr. Tunac began training in 1988 with instructor Tim Mugg. The following year he began training with Grand Master Kong Young Il. Grandmaster Kong’s instruction molded him into the martial artist that he is today. Mr. Tunac’s personal goals include improving on his skills and bringing respect and humility to those training under him. Mr. Tunac enjoys teaching those students who feel they have accomplished something at the end of each class. Mr. Tunac is scheduled to test for 5th Dan in April 2007. Mr. Tunac instructs on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Mr. Tunac’s goals for his students are 1. To be strong both mentally and physically 2. To be confident but not arrogant 3. To have faith in their training.

Mr. David Echanique

Dave teaches our Kids and Adult Jiu Jitsu classes. Dave hold a blue belt in Jiu Jitsu and has a background in Wrestling. He has trained with Javier Vasquez and others.
Dave has competed in two amatuer fights and is 2-0

 

 

 

 

 


 

Mr. Jay Martinez

Jay is one of our submission fighting instructors. He has fought for California Extreme Fighting, King of The Cage, and Hawaiian Super Brawl. Mr. Martinez has over sixteen years of mixed martial arts training covering Wrestling, Boxing, Judo, Kickboxing, Muay Thai and Jiu Jitsu. He has trained with some of the best; Erik Paulson, Josh Barnet, Ken Shamrock, Eddy Millis, Go Kar, and more.

Mr.Martinez is in charge of our advanced Mixed Martial Arts and Fighter Training.

gMr. Val Leedy

MR. VAL LEEDY is one of our Kickboxing and Submission Fighting Instructors here at UMMA. He trained in American Boxing, under Hector Gonzalez) Santa Ana Boxing Gym. Then started training and fighting in Muay Thai, under the tutelage of Cru Rex (Van Nuys Muay Thai Kickboxing Gym) The past year he’s been training under Grand Master Bob Chaney. Val holds a fight record of 5-2. He’s also moved into the Mixed Martial Arts, where he is training with Jay Martinez, Eddie Millis, and Eric Paulson. He’s also had the great opportunity of training with some of the best fighters in the world, such as: (Ken Shamrock, Josh Barnet, Guy Metzger, Vernon “Tiger” White, and Mighty Mo.

Val recently fought in King of The Cage and Invincibles. He is currently training to fight again Soon!

Mr. David Condon

Mr. Condon hold a fourth degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do. He teaches our Tuesday and Thursday noon Tae Kwon Do Class. He in an expert at teaching patterns.
